About the Role
Colombia, a country on the North-Western corner of South America, has been facing certain critical reconciliation challenges while negotiating understanding and truth-seeking between left and right-winged armed forces, paramilitary and guerrilla groups, and the local and national governments. Through the SSHRC-funded Design for Peace Project, various Colombian stakeholders (with the support of research groups in the United States and Canada) have proposed to use design methods to imagine a better future for Colombia.
We’re looking for one research assistant (RA) who will work on the Design for Peace Project from July 1stuntil September 30th, 2019. As part of their responsibilities, the RA will also travel with our researchers to Tumaco, Colombia for a two-to-three week International Development Design Summit at the end of July and beginning of August, 2019. In addition to appropriate hourly compensation, our funding will cover the RA’s flight to and from Colombia, and accommodation and meals while in Colombia.
Responsibilities
- Project preparation: the RA will support researchers in preparing the design activities prior to the Summit.
- Boots-on-the-ground: the successful candidate will travel to Colombia with the rest of the team and spend 2-3 weeks engaged in design and prototyping activities with the local participants. While in Colombia, the RA will help conduct design activities, support the needs of the Summit participants, and create records of the prototyping process and outcomes.
- Project synthesis: once back in Canada, the RA will work with the team to synthesize our findings from the Summit and help in dissemination efforts.
